THE NU BEAT CLUB

The Nu Beat Club started back in March 2013 as the only club night in Manchester where you could hear vintage 1960s Jamaican and US Soul club sounds played under one roof.

Our two resident original vinyl only DJs both have decades of DJing experience under their belts. Paul Welsby has DJ’d rare 60s Soul and R&B at Mod, Skinhead and Soul Clubs across the UK and Europe and was previously co-promoter and DJ at Manchester’s legendary Hideaway Club. Sugar “Ska Jesus” Merchant is the country’s top rare Ska and Reggae DJ and the most entertaining. He also has a parallel career as lead singer with Audiweb, one of Manchester’s finest bands of the last 30 years.

At some point after a few years, the boys took a break to do other things. But by the end of the pandemic, after the strange times we had all witnessed, we felt that the world needed more Nu Beat vibes.

Our first night back was June 2022 at Retro and we’ve held regular events there since playing to a room packed full of ever appreciative dancers.
